I started my business, Brush and Letter, when I was sixteen and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I remember getting ready to open my shop with an eager heart but also feeling nervous since I didn't know the in’s and out’s of running a business.
The truth is, you’re never gonna be fully prepared and you don’t have to know everything before you start! If I had waited to open my shop until I was “ready”, it still wouldn’t be open because I still don’t have it all together! I am still learning everyday. Over the three years of having Brush and Letter, I have learned a lot of valuable information and have grown my brand SO MUCH- all of which was made possible simply because I took a leap of faith to start my business and have worked hard ever since.
I am so thankful everyday that I get to wake up and work hard for Brush and Letter. Yes, I am thankful for all the orders and the joy of creating something beautiful but, I am also thankful for the hours of tedious work, the long nights of filling orders, and even the tears shed over things not matching up to my perfectionism. Why? Because all of those things are part of me living my dream of owning Brush and Letter. I am thankful because with each order that goes out and with each post on Instagram, I am hopeful that it, even slightly, will uplift and encourage others! It is because I decided to simply start that I now get to share a piece of my heart with the world through the art I create.
Owning a business doesn’t come without a lot of hard work to get it to where you want it to be. But remember, any successful business simply begins with a willingness to start.
