Trying out something new...
Everyone needs a next chapter. I knew I needed a change in direction soon, but I couldn’t figure out what it was going to be. Until now!
In my psychology class we had to read this book called the Last Lecture. It’s a short read by a guy named Randy Paush. Gonna be honest, at the time it didn’t make any sense to me. It seemed like the guy was just spewing whatever self help lessons he could think of. So I finished the book and moved on. Never really giving it a second thought.
Now here we are about two weeks later. And I think his message just clicked. It’s weird how some things take time to sink in. When we aren’t forcing ourselves to figure it out, it just comes to us at the most random of times.
What I think Randy was trying to tell us through all his lessons was one overarching thing. When you hit a brick wall there is always a loophole if you look hard enough and you want it bad enough.
After reevaluating my mindset and putting my problems in his terms, this is what I got.
Here’s my brick wall.
I’ve never been able to take these gorgeous, out of this world travel photos that so many others can. At least not yet. I’ve tried so hard to improve my photography. Don’t get me wrong it’s not terrible, but it doesn’t say anything compared to the millions of others out there. Some times you’ve gotta know your limits.
So yes, I could keep working on my photography skills. Problem is, there are so many people doing that already and they’re all amazing. I don’t want to be another amateur photographer adding to the already saturated field. I don’t want to waste another five years bettering my camera skills, only to realize there are even more competition.
I don’t want to be just another average photographer. I want to be known for doing something better than most can. I always wanted my photos to stand out. There’s got to be something about them that makes you know they are mine.
It got me thinking just because you can’t take them doesn’t mean you can’t be involved in the process.
Here’s my loophole.
Doodling. Drawing on photos has always been so much fun for me. It makes parts of the photo pop. Or maybe you even giggle when there’s a little character drawn. They are nowhere close to perfect, but that’s the point. It’s different and it makes you stop and check it out.
No one out there is editing their photos the way I am. That makes me special.
So, for this new chapter I’m going to be doing edits on photos taken by influencers that have inspired me. Who knows where this chapter will go. But I wanna try it out.
