Pursue Your Childhood Dream

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

Like many little girls, I had this far fetched dream of becoming famous for doing what I love. The issue with this dream was that I wasn’t a star soccer player or child prodigy violinist. I just liked to draw. Realistically, becoming a successful artist is very tough, so eventually reality struck and I kind of gave up on that dream.

When I got to college I had a new life plan, I was studying Criminology and Behavior Analysis, hoping to go into Criminal Profiling. I really enjoyed what I was studying, but I felt like something was missing.

I was scrolling through Instagram one day and came across a few accounts who were creating digital art pieces and even doing custom portraits for people. I had this realization that I can do this too, I needed to pursue my childhood dream, and this is where it would begin. The first thing I did was change my major. I am now studying Advertising and Design, and I’ve never been happier!

I purchased a used iPad and started my design account. I started drawing my favorite

Youtubers, food, pets, and anything imaginable. After a few weeks, I started getting requests to do commissions and I was mind blown that people actually wanted to purchase my work! That was the boost of confidence that I needed.

After a few months I had my own little side business. I began to slowly figure out how to

differentiate myself from other artists. I focused on what my “style” is, which ultimately is minimal detail but not your typical minimalist. Over time I have created a color palette that I stick to for most of my designs. I’m a very happy, bubbly person so I knew that I needed to be using bright colors in order to express my personality through my work! As far as I’ve come, I still consider everything, a work in progress. I am so happy with where I am at but I know there is always room for improvement! I am still building my “personal brand”. and developing my identity in the art community. I plan on creating stickers in the near future so I know that this will be a great addition to my little business.

My advice to anyone who thinks their dream is too unrealistic, is to just go for it! I never even

imagined that digital art could be a career, and now I’m going into my third year of college,

studying something I love and enjoy! You can do anything you put your mind to, so don’t hold back!
